AI job applications on Greenhouse: how Reach fills them
Greenhouse is a widely used applicant tracking system, so any AI job application tool that claims to apply for you has to handle Greenhouse forms well. This guide explains exactly how Reach, by Vine AI, finds Greenhouse jobs, fills Greenhouse application forms, deals with the emailed security code Greenhouse sometimes sends, and where it stops and hands the application back to you. It is written by the Reach team. Reach was founded in 2026, has a small user base and no independent review record yet, so we have kept every claim concrete enough to check against your own applications.
How Reach reads Greenhouse boards
Reach reads Greenhouse through its public board API. Instead of scraping a rendered careers page or copying a listing from a job board, Reach pulls each employer's Greenhouse board directly. That means the postings in your matches, and the application questions attached to them, are the ones the employer is currently running. When a posting is pulled, a liveness sweep removes it from your list and closes any application still waiting on it, so you do not spend a tailored package on a dead role.
Greenhouse is one of eleven ATS families Reach scrapes continuously, alongside Lever, Ashby, Workday, SmartRecruiters, Recruitee, Teamtailor, Workable, Personio, Pinpoint and Breezy, plus employer career pages and public job APIs. Every Greenhouse posting then goes through the same deterministic gates as any other job before an AI reads it: location eligibility, salary floor, seniority, work type, schedule, direct employer versus staffing agency, your company blocklist, title words to skip, non-compete employers, and the government contracting and clearance filters. Only postings that pass are scored against your persona.
The board root trap: a job list is not an application
Many links that point at Greenhouse are not application forms at all. A link to an employer's Greenhouse board root is the company's job list, and a careless filler that follows it can land on the wrong page, or on a list of every open role, and report the job as applied. Reach knows a board root link is not a posting and rewrites it to that posting's own application form before filling anything. Reach always applies through the posting's own form on the employer's Greenhouse application, never through a job board's copy of it.
What a Greenhouse application needs, and how Reach handles it
| What a Greenhouse application needs | How Reach handles it |
|---|---|
| The right form for the right job | Applies through the posting's own application form; a board root link is rewritten to the correct form first |
| Current questions | Postings and their questions come from Greenhouse's public board API, so what Reach fills matches what the employer is asking today |
| Resume and cover letter | A new resume and cover letter written for that posting from your real history, checked for invented claims, editable before it ships |
| Contact fields, including international phone numbers | Filled from your persona; an international phone widget gets your number in E.164 format so it is not misread against the wrong country |
| Education rows (school, degree, discipline, dates) | Each education row is kept on the entry its school names, so a degree is not attached to the wrong school; degrees in progress are never reported as earned |
| Screening and custom questions | Answered from your saved answers, your resume and your persona; career history questions with no evidence behind them are left for you instead of guessed |
| Emailed security code after a failed reCAPTCHA check | Reach reads the code from your private apply inbox and completes the form |
| A visible captcha | Never solved by automation; the application parks in Needs attention for you to finish |
Education rows stay on the right entry
Greenhouse renders education as a set of repeating rows: school, degree, discipline and dates, one row per entry. If you have two or three schools, a filler that answers by label alone can put your master's degree next to your undergraduate school, or mix dates across rows. Reach fills education row by row and keeps each row on the entry that its school names. Degree questions are answered from what you actually hold, so a degree you are still completing is never reported as earned, and a yes or no degree question gets an honest answer.
The emailed security code
Sometimes Greenhouse's reCAPTCHA check fails quietly, and instead of rejecting the application outright Greenhouse falls back to emailing a security code to the applicant, which has to be typed back into the form before it will submit. For most automation this is a dead end: the code arrives in a personal inbox the tool cannot see, and the application stalls.
Every Reach user has a private apply address on a Reach-run domain, and that is the email Reach puts on your applications. When Greenhouse sends the security code, it lands in your Reach Inbox, and Reach reads the code from there and completes the application. The same inbox collects the employer's confirmation, any rejection, recruiter replies and interview invitations, so Reach can tell you what actually happened to each Greenhouse application rather than only that it was submitted. You can reply to recruiters from inside Reach as that address.
What happens when a captcha appears
A visible captcha is different from the emailed code. Reach never solves captchas by automation. When a Greenhouse form shows one, the application is parked in the Needs attention list on your Applications tab, with the tailored resume and cover letter already prepared. You finish it yourself, either on the page directly or live through the Reach Autofill extension. Login walls and identity checks are treated the same way.
The extension path
Reach fills most ATS forms with a headless browser on its own servers. For sites that wall server-side automation, the Reach Autofill browser extension (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and Firefox) fills the same Greenhouse form inside your own browser, using the same answers, documents and education handling.
By default the extension never clicks submit; you do. If you turn on hands-off mode, it submits only a clean fill: nothing unanswered, no fill errors and no visible captcha. An optional unattended queue can walk your approved applications on a schedule in your own browser, with per-run and per-day caps. If a captcha is showing, the extension leaves the submit to you.
Review mode is the default
Reach does not start applying to Greenhouse jobs, or any jobs, the moment you sign up. Every application is held for your approval by default. You see the posting, the score, the tailored resume and cover letter, and you can edit both before anything ships; edits re-render the PDF. Auto-apply is opt in per persona, under a daily cap you set, and can be paused at any time. Once an application is sent, the stored package is frozen as the record of what the employer received.
What Reach gets wrong
Greenhouse lets employers attach long custom questionnaires, and Reach will not invent answers it has no evidence for, so those forms can leave unanswered questions in your Needs answers list. Visible captchas always need you. Inventory is US centric, so coverage of Greenhouse employers outside the US is thinner. Auto-apply volume is capped on purpose. The company is young, with a small user base and no third party ratings yet. Other auto-apply tools may advertise Greenhouse support too; as of October 2026 we have not verified their behavior, so check each tool's own site for how it handles emailed codes and captchas.
Who this is for
- You apply mostly to tech and startup roles: if the employers you target use Greenhouse, Reach reads their boards directly.
- Your applications stall on emailed security codes: the private apply inbox lets Reach finish them.
- You have more than one degree or school: row by row education filling keeps each entry intact.
- You want to see every application before it goes: review mode is the default, and documents are editable.
- You want maximum volume with no review: Reach caps auto-apply on purpose, so a volume tool will suit you better.
- You are searching mainly outside the US: expect thinner coverage for now.
Reach's free tier is permanent: unlimited matches, 3 auto-applies a day and 5 tailored packages a month, no card. Before it applies anywhere, check the base document every application is written from with our free resume checker; it needs no account.
